Opening Wednesday with a gala preview party, Tryon Little Theater and Tryon Fine Arts Center are proud to present this year’s Tryon Summer Youth Theater’s production of “The Little Mermaid.” Directed by Chris Tinkler with musical direction from Pam McNeil, the stage show is based on the Hans Christian Andersen story and the Disney film of the same name.

A large and enthusiastic cast and crew have worked hard, long hours to bring the show together. There are many new faces, and lots of familiar ones too, as seasoned young actors return to one of their favorite stages. One of those is Emily Kocher, who plays Ariel the Mermaid. She’s a rising sophomore at UNC Chapel Hill majoring in political science and broadcast journalism.

“I’m super excited to do this play because who wouldn’t want to be a mermaid and a princess?” she says. “I’m getting to fulfill my childhood dream!”
