Mary Hughes Jacobus

Mary Louise Hughes Jacobus, 80, of Rock Hill, S.C. passed away Wednesday morning, July 6, 2016.

Born in Toledo, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth Brent Hughes and Jennie Augusta Tilley Hughes. She was a graduate of Cleveland Community College and Gardner Webb with a BS in nursing and went on to become the director of Home Health Nursing Services, director of Infection Control Program, IV Team, CCU at multiple hospitals and director of Home Nutritional Services.

Mary found great joy in life which all stemmed from her steadfast Christian faith. She enjoyed crocheting, traveling and loved to cook and entertain for family and friends. Later in life, she discovered a new talent of oil painting, which she shared with others by becoming a certified teacher. Her passion was for helping and serving others.

She was always a reminder to everyone around her to love without question. She always looked for the greatest potential in her children and grandchildren, while encouraging them to be the best they could be in everything they did. Mary led by word and deed. She was everything that exemplified love.

Surviving is her husband, Jack Jacobus; two daughters, Donna Watts and Renee Hudson; one son, Gray Poe (Fiancée, Lynn Epps); two brothers, Richard Hughes of Greensboro, N.C. and Russell Hughes of Cullowee, N.C.; four grandchildren, Neil Pearson (Jennifer), Kelly Reese, Farrah Poe (Fiancé, David Kugman) and Preston Poe; one great-grandchild, Keaton Dawkins. Also surviving are long-time friends, Voneva and Johnny McKeown.

Private graveside services were held.
