Historical treasure of the month

Published 8:56 am Tuesday, June 21, 2016

The courthouse is not in the Polk County Historical Association museum, but we do have a historically accurate model built to a scale of 1/8 inch per foot. You can see how our courthouse looked in 1859. Other treasures preserve unique features of the courthouse, such as the cupola that still houses the original 1857 bell; the bell wheel, though, now hangs from the museum ceiling. Visit us at 60 Walker St., Columbus, and see courthouse displays, pictures, the mysterious shoe discovered during restoration, and more of interest. Regular hours are 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday. Individual tours are also available. (Submitted by George Camparetto)
