“On your mark, get set…Read” at the Landrum Library

If you are looking for fun and educational activities for kids, visit the Landrum Library.  Participate in the Summer Reading Program. The Children’s Summer Reading Program is for birth through age 12 and runs from June 1 to July 31.


Kids read books, fill in their reading records and earn prizes. There are no reading lists so everyone can read what they want. Visit any Spartanburg County library location to register and pick up a reading record or visit infodepot.org to sign-up online.

The library will be sponsoring events for kids throughout the summer. The 2016 Summer Reading theme is “On your mark, get set…Read!” For programs that require sign-up you may call or register in person. Here are the scheduled programs for kids at the Landrum library this summer:


Family Fun Concert

Friday, June 3, 4:30 p.m.

Join us for a fun concert with Susana and Timmy Abell. Their performance will include fun stories, puppetry and songs.



Tuesday, June 7, 3:30 p.m

Make animal suncatchers. Sign-up required.


Tangles of Tales

Thursday, June 9, 11 a.m.

Grey Seal Puppets presents Tangle of Tales. Watch puppeteers present traditional folk tales, such as, “The Three little Pigs” and “The Frog Prince.”


Hollywild’s Local Animal Friends

Tuesday, June 14, 10 a.m.
Thanks to the Pacolet Area Conservancy, Hollywild is bringing some local animal friends to visit the library.


Fun ‘N Sun

Thursday, June 16, 11 a.m.
Outdoor activities include bubbles, wading, sidewalk chalk, etc. Beware participants may get messy so bring a towel! Recommended for preschoolers.


Movie Night

Tuesday, June 21, 5:30 p.m.
The library will be showing Disney’s Zootopia. Snacks will be provided.


Get Ready to Dance

Thursday, June 23, 11 a.m.

Get Ready to Dance with Ms. Missy and learn fun dance moves.


Lego Build

Tuesday, June 28, 4:30 p.m.
We will have our monthly Lego build. This month’s challenge is to build a boat. Sign-up is required.


Patriotic Parade

Thursday, June 30, 11 a.m. Parade route begins at Landrum Library and ends at Brookwood Park. Celebrate at the end of the parade with popsicles at the park.



Tuesday, July 5, 3:30 p.m. Make a fun craft. Sign-up required.


Animals of Appalachia

Tuesday, July 12, 6 p.m.

Thanks to the Pacolet Area Conservancy,  a naturalist from Chimney Rock State Park will let us get up close and personal with some of our resident animal ambassadors.


Professor Whizzpop

Thursday, July 14, 11 a.m.
Professor Whizzpop whose myriad of mishandled magic provides giggles galore as the Professor gets nearly everything wrong and the kids in the audience help to make everything right!


Wii Tournament

Tuesday, July 19, 4:30 p.m.
Play Wii games with friends. Snacks will be provided.


Lego Build

Tuesday, July 26, 4:30 p.m.
We will have our monthly Lego build. This month’s challenge is to build a plane. Sign-up is required.


Blacklight Puppet Show

Thursday, July 28, 11 a.m. Watch a puppet show, recommended for all ages.


Closing Program

Tuesday, Aug. 2, 6 p.m. The closing program is the last event of the summer reading program. There will be certificates, prizes and pizza! For kids who submit a completed reading record.
