Anita Wilson, local 30-year Army veteran, led 22 veterans and five extra participants on a 22.2-mile walk along Hwy. 14 to Mutt’s BBQ in Greer beginning at 7 a.m. Friday morning at the Ingles in Landrum, to raise awareness of the 22 veterans a day who commit suicide following their return home from combat. Wilson said this number tends to be higher, as larger states did not report their numbers, and in most cases women do not receive service recognition on their death certificates. The group made it to Greer at approximately 8:40 Friday night.  (Photo by Michael O’Hearn)
