Barbara Elizabeth Schuvart, 78, of Tryon, N.C. passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Columbus, N.C.

Barbara was born to the late Clyde and Emmie Lou Swedenberg and grew up in Greenville, S.C. Barbara later moved to New York and married Laurence Schuvart who preceded her in death in 2006. After spending 30 years in New York raising her family, she moved back to the south and resided in Tryon, N.C. Barbara was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Tryon, N.C. She enjoyed playing Bridge and was a member of The Foothills Bridge Club. Barbara donated her time as a volunteer for St. Luke’s Hospital and St. Luke’s Hospital Second Hand Store.

Barbara is survived by two sons, Matthew Schuvart, and Joseph Schuvart and his wife Lisa of New York; three daughters, Julia Geiler of New Jersey, Regina Kelly of New York, Katherine D’Oyen of Tryon, N.C., and Alexandra Nolan and her husband Stephen of Raleigh, N.C.; nine grandchildren, Kimberly Kelly, Sean Kelly, Brendan Kelly, McKenzie Schuvart, Austin Schuvart, Murphy D’Oyen, Tij D’Oyen, Jack Nolan and Libby Nolan. Also surviving are three brothers, Michael, John, and Tommy Swedenberg, and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2016 in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Tryon, N.C. with Father Roger Arnsparger officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
