At this year’s National Art Education Association Convention in Chicago, Cindy Riddle was selected as the president elect of SCAEA, advancing into the role of president of the South Carolina Art Education Association in two years. The consensus decision of the SCAEA Board of Directors was based on the growth and vision of arts programming in Spartanburg District One Schools. This year, Riddle was named the SCAEA Art Administrator of the Year. In a transformation role, Dr. Ronald Garner was named the SCAEA Advocate of the Year in 2014. Under his leadership, District One Schools has moved from defending the importance of arts education to leading systemic change.
The National Art Education Association (NAEA) advances visual arts education to fulfill human potential and promote global understanding. The world’s largest professional organization for visual art educators, represents all 50 states, D.C., all U.S. provinces and over 25 countries.
The SCAEA Presidency is a six-year commitment, assuring that the leadership position has continuity. Duties include planning the state conference, representing S.C. at the Delegates Assembly NAEA, writing platform statements for standards and instruction, working with legislators to further help with the mission of arts education as it aligns to the Profile of a S.C. graduate and managing teacher grants.
