Polk makes appointments to newly organized ETDC
The Polk County Board of Commissioners made appointments to its newly organized economic and tourism development commission during its March 7 meeting. Appointed to the board were Marc Blazar, Cindy Viehman, Christy Houser, Judd Daniel, Steve Modlin, Michael Kleiner, Christine “Kate” Barkschat, Cassie Silvers, Ken Busch, Tom Strader, Bob Binns, Tracey Daniels, Donald Hofmann, Robin Dampier and Fred Baisden. Applicant Libbie Johnson was not appointed due to a tie vote. Commissioners Shane Bradley and Ray Gasperson voted to appoint Johnson and commissioners Michael Gage and Keith Holbert voted not to appoint Johnson.
Polk appoints volunteers to Green Creek Fire Commission and animal cruelty
Sarah Fisher was appointed to Polk County’s Animal Cruelty Investigator team during the commissioners’ March 7 meeting. Commissioners also approved the appointments of Paul Stacy, Bruce Collins and John Blanton to the Green Creek Fire Commission.
Polk County Recreation now allowing sponsorships
The Polk County Recreation Department is now set up to accept sponsorships for teams or other projects. The Polk County Board of Commissioners met March 7 and approved a new policy to accept sponsorships. Recreation director Jerry Stensland said he gets asked how someone can sponsor a team. Polk County School Board approves additional snow makeup days
Polk County School Board approved snow makeup days at their monthly meeting Monday night. Since students missed February 15 and 16 due to snow, Polk County Early College students will be required to attend school on May 25 and 26 and all other campuses will make school up on May 20.
Polk County School Board adopts 2016-2017 school calendar
At their regular monthly meeting Monday night, the Polk County School Board approved the upcoming 2016-2017 calendar. The first day of school for students is on Mon., Aug. 29. Students will have Nov. 23, 24 and 25 off for Thanksgiving. Christmas break will begin on Dec. 22 and run until students have to return to school Jan. 2. Finals will be held Jan. 17-20 and the second semester will begin on Jan. 24. The school year will conclude with a half day on June 9, 2017.
Polk County School Board to meet April 4
The Polk County School Board normally holds monthly meetings on the second Monday, but due to conflicts with spring break, which runs from April 11-15, the board rescheduled their April meeting for April 4. It will be held in the conference room of Stearn’s School at 6:30 p.m.
