James “Jimi” I. Black

James Ivey Black, 60, of Tryon, N.C. passed away Thursday, March 10, 2016 at his home.
Born in Cleveland County, N.C., he was the son of the late Henry Leroy and Pansy Shehan Black and husband of the late Susan McCarter Black who died in 2013. Mr. Black lived in Polk County for the last 36 years coming from Rutherford County. He worked for his father-in-law, Vernon McCarter at the chicken farm.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Kimberly Black and Beth Roberts.
Surviving are three daughters, Tracy Martin (Dennis) of Tryon, N.C., Danielle Greene (Shannon) of Sandy Mush, N.C. and Brittney Hutchins (Jenni) of Asheville, N.C.; four brothers, Brian Black of Tryon, N.C., Rev. Danny Black of Rutherfordton, N.C., Jerry Black (Beth) of Ellenboro, N.C. and Donnie Black of Rutherfordton, N.C.; one sister, Bernice Green of Spartanburg, S.C.; eight grandchildren, Jessica, Jamie, Cain, Cade, Paizley, Shayna, Hunter and Luke; three great-grandchildren, Auydreigh-May, Everyleigh-Jo and Brylyn, and two on the way.
A funeral will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 2016 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, N.C. with Rev. Danny Black officiating.
Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends prior to the service Thursday from 5 – 7 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
At other times, the family will be at the home of Tracy Martin.
