Saluda will be setting the stage for some “Tomfoolery” on April 1 with an Oyster Roast at the Back Alley Barn behind Thompson’s Store/Ward’s Grill. This is a benefit to raise money for the purchase of the Saluda Historic Depot. Guests are encouraged to dress up in their finest “tomfoolery” costumes.

 

Those attending the April 1 fundraiser benefitting the Saluda Depot will be in for a special musical treat from Doug and Bunny Williams of Chapin, S.C. Doug and Bunny have been entertaining audiences in South Carolina and the entire Southeast for decades. Doug blends smooth vocal arrangements with a guitar and bass accompaniment to the songs of George Gershwin, Cole Porter, the Great American songbook, beach classics, and their own compositions.

 

Doug and Bunny will be joined on the Back Alley Barn stage by Dick Goodwin. Dick has wowed audiences with his Dick Goodwin Bog Band and Dick Goodwin Quintet, both nationally, and abroad. He finds time to perform with the South Carolina Philharmonic Orchestra playing double bass, piano, and trumpet. He is professor emeritus at the University of South Carolina School of Music. Also playing with Doug and Bunny will be percussionist Tom Graham.

 

Doug and Bunny have produced their own recording, “Talkin’ Southern,” which will be available at their performance in Saluda. A silent auction will include numerous items from businesses and other sponsors of the event.

 

Tickets are on sale at Thompson’s Store or at the Saluda Historic Depot that is open Thursday through Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. Reservations may be made by calling 828-749-2321. You may have a choice of oysters or seafood gumbo and each ticket price includes a beer and hushpuppies.
