Tryon Public Works Director Walker retires

Tryon Public Works Director Gary Walker recently retired from the town. Tryon Town Council held a special meeting on Thursday, Feb. 25 and discussed that the town will not name an interim at least through the end of the current fiscal year, which ends June 30. Various supervisors will report directly to the town manager.

Tryon Town Council has mentioned recently at its regular February town council meeting and a special meeting on Thursday, Feb. 25 its desire to sell the building on South Trade Street that was donated to the town last year (the former Tryon Riding & Hunt Club building). Tryon may use the proceeds to put towards needed street and sidewalk projects.

Volunteers needed for LABA Easter egg hunt, Horsepower Weekend

At their monthly meeting held March 1, Landrum Area Business Association members discussed the upcoming Easter egg hunt and Horsepower Weekend events and have requested volunteers for each event. The “Landrum Eggstravaganza” event will take place at the Landrum Library on Mar. 26. LABA requests volunteers to arrive at the library at 10 a.m. The event will start promptly at 11 a.m. Contact Southern Delights owner Linda Fitzgerald-Howard at 864-457-1181 for more details. Volunteers are also needed to help park cars and sell tickets at the Horsepower Weekend event on Apr. 30 on N. Trade Avenue in Landrum.
