Course registration now open at UNC Asheville’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute

The College for Seniors, a community of learners and teachers at UNC Asheville’s OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute), is now accepting registration for spring term courses. Classes are held weekly for eight weeks, beginning March 21.

 

Courses range from hobbies and skills, to arts and culture, to serious academic exploration in a variety of topics. There are no tests, grades or credits. Most classes meet at the Reuter Center on UNC Asheville’s campus. The College for Seniors course catalog is available at olliasheville.com/courses.

New this spring are four health and dance courses offered in the Town of Woodfin in partnership with the Woodfin YMCA. Another new course is Black-White Relations in American Film, team-taught by film analyst Carol Taylor and the Rev. Michael Carter, pastor of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Swannanoa Valley.

 

College for Seniors music courses for the spring term include The Evolution of Folk-Rock Music, Folk Music Revival, Bob Dylan and the Boomers, and, with UNC Asheville Physics Professor Michael Ruiz at the piano, Popular Music of the 1960s.

 

There is a registration fee. OLLI membership is also required. OLLI membership includes additional benefits, including access to UNC Asheville’s library, fitness facilities, parking, discounts on special events and more.

OLLI also hosts an array of events that are free and open to the public, including Fab Friday lunch-and-learn lectures on health topics, STEM Lectures, Opera Talk, Symphony Talk, Chamber Music Chat, Sundays with the Brevard Music Center, and more.
