The All-American Auto Body shop in Columbus received two unusual customers Thursday afternoon when Suzanne Strickland delivered two fiberglass horses to their business for finishing. These horses, designed by Spartanburg artist Barbour Bordegna, are two of the three horses she is designing for a community-wide event called ‘Art of the Horse’ taking place this year. Thirteen artists were given the opportunity to design fiberglass horses in accordance with their sponsors’ direction, and these horses will be set up in places around the Foothills between April and August before being auctioned in August at the Tryon International Equestrian Center. Phillip Arrowood and Brian Lance of the body shop will spray the horses with a European clear coat finish that will be weatherproof and prevent scratches or damage. This step, according to Arrowood, is a straightforward coating process and will take up to a few days to complete. (Photo by Michael O’Hearn)
