Green Creek early voting closed this year

Polk County residents will no longer have the Green Creek Fire Department as a one-stop, early voting site.

The Polk County Board of Elections says the state approved the closing of the Green Creek one-stop site as well as early voting hours for the 2016 primary, which is March 15.

Early voting sites for the primary will be at the Polk County Board of Elections, located on the second floor of the Womack building in Columbus and the Mill Spring Fire Department.

Early voting begins on March 3 and ends on March 12. Weekday hours are from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

The first day to mail absentee votes for this year’s primary is Monday, Jan. 25, according to the state board of elections office. The last day to register to vote for the primary is Friday, Feb. 19. The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 8.

The Polk County Board of Elections has scheduled a meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. at the elections office. The board will swear in newly hired election’s director Clifford J. Marr during the meeting. The public is encouraged to attend to meet Marr and have light refreshments following the swearing in.
