“Tiger Lily”

Karen Johnson is a local artist whose evocative work will be showing at The Depot at Millard & Company from Jan. 15 through Feb. 17. The public is invited to a reception on Friday evening, Jan. 15 from 5-7 p.m.

She writes this about her work: “At this point in my life, art has become more of a place of comfort, less guessing, less worrying and less trying to find my place and style. I found it by letting go. Realism really is ok. Simple pencil and paper is ok. There is great power within the subject of human beings. I believe the essence or soul of a person affects their outward appearance. This idea is my muse. I love to capture the effect this essence has on a face. Searching faces for this essence entertains me even if I have no paper or pencil. Looking at them I imagine how I would render it on paper. It is infinitely interesting to me. I’m grateful to be able to show this body of work, “Mostly Portraits,” at the Depot at Millard & Company in Tryon.”
