Blue Ridge Rail Assoc. to host November meeting

Published 9:21 pm Wednesday, November 11, 2015

I am pleased to announce the next meeting of The Blue Ridge Railroad Association at the Landrum, S.C. depot! The purpose of the association is to promote further knowledge of the rail transportation industry, both from an historical perspective as well as from latest developments pertinent to the local region. The meeting will be held on Thursday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. The tentative speaker will be Ms. Diana Cabot-Miller of Amtrak. Diana is the Southeast Marketing Manager for Amtrak and will talk about current operations and future plans for passenger rail in this region. In the event Diana cannot be present, Mr. Frank Ezell will provide a presentation on the South Carolina Canal and Railroad Company (1830s) and the Spartanburg and Union Railroad (the first railroad into Spartanburg). Also, Mr. Michael Saverino, a long time railfan and BRRA board member, will provide video presentations on the “Southern Loops” and Saluda Grade including videos of current Norfolk Southern Railroad operations and past steam excursions. There will be no membership requirements or dues assessments. A small donation to help with meeting costs would be appreciated, but not required. To share information, questions and comments, search for “Blue Ridge Railroad Association” on Facebook or use the following URL in your web browser: https://www.facebook.com/blueridgerrassoc
