Francis B. “Mike” Childs
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend Francis B. “Mike” Childs, Jr., of Tryon, passed away at age 82 on Nov. 2, 2015, at Smith Phayer Hospice House in Landrum, S.C.
He was born Feb. 9, 1933 in Milford, Mass., to the late Francis B. Childs, Sr. and Edith M. Bearistow Childs. A US Army veteran, Mr. Childs proudly served our country during the Korean War, then went on to work at the Foxboro Company in Foxboro, Mass., as a senior product coordinator.
Mr. Childs was a well-known and loved member of The United Methodist Church in Columbus, N.C., as well as the American Legion Post 250 in Tryon, NC. He showed his dedication to others as a longstanding volunteer with the Outreach Ministry and St. Luke’s Thrift Shop.
Friends and family remember him as a man who showed his love for others in a big way and never held back a kind word to anyone. “Mike” was truly someone who lived a “remarkable” life by leaving a permanent mark on all those he leaves behind.
Mr. Childs is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Kirby Childs; son, Michael E. Childs, and his wife, Judy, of Plano, Texas; daughter, Lee-Ann Childs, and her husband, Chris, of Pawtucket, R.I.; brother, Allen B. Childs, of Derry, N.H.; sisters, Joan L. Boutin and Carole Lowe, of Attleboro, Mass; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Bergeron, and brothers Preston E. Childs and Merton B. Childs.
Services will be held this Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015, at 11 a.m., at Columbus United Methodist Church, 76 N. Peak St., Columbus, NC 28722, to honor a man who spent his life honoring so many others. Pastor Rob Parsons will officiate.
