As thanks to the foothills community for helping the first TEDxTryon foothills event become a resounding success, TEDxTryon organizers Loti and Corrie Woods and Lichty Guitars are throwing a free community party.

They are bringing world-class music to Tryon Fine Arts Center’s Main Stage for a free concert on Sunday, Nov. 8. From 7-8:30 there will be a performance on ukulele, kīkū and guitar by world-class Hawaiian musicians Kimo Hussey and Zanuck Lindsey. Tryon’s own Jay Lichty will open. Prior to the free concert, the community is invited to come early from 6:15-7 p.m. to visit with friends and to enjoy light refreshments. CDs, beer and wine will be available for purchase. Donations are gladly accepted to help cover the artists’ travel expenses.

Kimo Hussey is known throughout the world for his captivating ukulele playing, both as a performer and as an instructor. He is also an advocate for the therapeutic benefits of music and contributes to outreach programs like The Pacific Music Foundation. Through his ukulele playing workshops, Kimo has taught over 10,000 uke-lovers around the world. He has recorded two solo ukulele CDs, “Eminent Ukulele” and “Low G” and has contributed to several other composite ukulele CDs. He is an author of the multiple award-winning Hawaiian songbook “He” which has sold millions of copies around the world and has been translated into several languages.

Zanuck Lindsey has been a professional musician, teacher, composer and producer for over 30 years. He tours internationally. Highlights include performances at the Hollywood Bowl, Carnegie Hall, Irvine Meadows, Shoreline Amphitheater, Aloha Stadium and the Oneness Center in Golden City, India and many others.

Kimo Hussey comes to Tryon by way of his collaborative relationship with luthier Jay Lichty. Always in search of the perfect sound in a ukulele, Kimo commissioned Jay to build him his first Lichty ukulele in 2012. Since that time they have collaborated on the design of well over a dozen instruments. These Lichty ukuleles have traveled the world with Kimo, gracing stages from Thailand to Australia to Hawaii.
