The Patriots Salute to Veterans Association, Inc. of Columbus, N.C. wants to ensure all of the veterans in Polk County, Landrum, and other nearby communities are aware that the parade to honor our veterans will take place once again his year.

The parade on Nov. 11 will begin at 10 a.m. in downtown Columbus. Following the parade there will be a memorial service conducted at the Veterans Park in Columbus.

As a service to the veterans the US Department of Veterans Affairs will have counseling specialist on Gibson Street in front of the House of Flags to provide the veterans and families of veterans information about their benefits, health care, and any claims they might have. The American Legion Post 250, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9116 and other support organizations will also be on hand to assist veterans.

“The parade is for and about the veterans and we want them to participate in it by marching, riding, or simply watching it from the sidelines,” said Bevin Corbin, current president of the association. “All veterans are encouraged to wear their uniforms of parts thereof with medals, badges, and headgear they may have available.

All veterans who wish to participate are requested to gather at the Food Lion parking lot entrance closest to the Entegra (Macon) Bank, which is where the parade will start. Please be there by 9:30 a.m. so we can place you with the right group in the parade. Those veterans desiring to ride will be assisted in boarding the appropriate vehicle.

More information on the parade will be published in future articles.
