Philip Edward Burgess

Philip Edward Burgess, 58, of Mill Spring, N.C. was called to be with the Lord Sunday morning, Oct. 11, 2015 at Hospice House of Rutherford County after an extended illness.

Born in Polk County, N.C., he was the son of the late Clarence W. and Joan “Daisy” Corn Burgess. Philip was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church. He greatly enjoyed the outdoors, was an avid gardener and a devoted race fan.

Surviving are one son, Brandon C. Burgess of Mill Spring, N.C.; one daughter, Haley P. Burgess of Asheville, N.C.; two sisters, Gail Singer (Bob) of Golden Valley, N.C. and Leslie Roxie Burgess-Streat of Mill Spring, N.C. Also his two devoted friends that helped with his care, Marlene and Connie.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015 in Mountain View Baptist Church, Mill Spring, N.C. with Rev. Charles Jackson officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6-7:30 p.m. in the McFarland Funeral Chapel.

At other times, the family will be at the home of Leslie Roxie Burgess-Streat, Mill Spring, N.C.
