75-Year Water Deal
Published 10:30 pm Friday, October 9, 2015
The county commissioners are giving away our water
for the next 75 years if the contract goes through
with Inman-Campobello Water District in South Carolina
in exchange South Carolina fixes Lake Adger Dam.
Citizens speak at commissioner meetings
about the insanity of such a deal
except for Lone Ranger Ray Gasperson
none of the others even look up.
My wife took the podium with unknown passion
spoke of the preciousness of our natural resource
we may need our own water just to survive
how can we predict the next 75 years.
8 million gallons a day
South Carolina can sell on the market
our little Polk County gets none of that money
never has any deal smelled so fishy.
The county commissioners have a point
providing us water is lots of hard work
let South Carolina take care of that headache
we commissioners have more fun things to do.
The 4th of July fireworks display is fun
The Veterans’ Parade where we thank vets for their service
we’re county commissioners, we hardly get paid
this water stuff is work and it is not fun.
South Carolina, placing all its bets
on the growth of the Upstate – Greenville, Spartanburg
corporations from Germany and Japan
need water to run those plants.
Little Polk County North Carolina
a sitting duck on a lake called Adger
don’t forget the pristine Green River
kayakers aren’t known to read utility contracts.
And still they can’t say what our water is worth
like selling your house and not putting a price
South Carolina, crouching like a wolf
licking its lips saying, Isn’t this nice.
