Saluda Center Book Club to meet to discuss My Brilliant Friend

The Saluda Center Book Club will meet in the Saluda Senior Center on Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. to discuss My Brilliant Friend, by Elena Ferrante.

The novel by the anonymous and widely acclaimed Italian author traces a friendship that lasts a lifetime, beginning in a poor area near Naples in the 1950s. Two girls, Elena and Lila, learn in the tough streets to rely on each other ahead of anyone or anything else as their friendship, beautifully told, becomes an imperfect shelter from hardship. This is a story of momentous change in a neighborhood, a city and a country.

The Club meets in the Saluda Senior Center, 64 Greenville St., on the first Thursday each month.  The selection for the November meeting is All the Light We Cannot See, by Anthony Doerr.
