Approximately 70 blue and silver bows currently line four miles of Highway 14 through Landrum with more on the way, on trees, mailboxes and lightpoles. They are being placed in honor of Brian Kuykendall, who was diagnosed with lung cancer in early June. A Facebook group, known as #teamkirk contains 2,700 community members who have raised thousands of dollars for Kuykendall’s “Fight Fund,” Placement of the ribbons was approved Landrum City Council on Aug. 11. They will remain until the Kuykendall benefit barbecue, which takes place on Sept. 19 in the Landrum Depot. Tickets can be purchased at Steps to HOPE in Columbus, Landrum City Hall, Landrum News Leader, McFarland Funeral Chapel in Tryon and The Carousel Shop in Gramling. (Photo by Brandon Shanesy)
