Duke Energy set to hold second public meeting amid growing concern

Duke Energy will hold its next Western Carolina Modernization Project public meeting on Tuesday, July 21 at Landrum Middle School. The meeting will take place from 4-7 p.m. in the gymnasium located next to the Steve Coley baseball field at 104 Redland Road in Landrum.

Duke Energy will provide updated maps and experts to answer public questions.

The previous meeting in Fletcher saw approximately 500 attendees.

The Landrum Middle School meeting will have a drop-in format filled with visual aids. Meeting attendance is expected to increase as awareness continues to grow through social media such as Facebook and Twitter.

A Change.org petition titled “STOP the Duke Energy Western Carolinas Modernization Project” is calling for Landrum, Campobello and Tryon officials to oppose any potential line construction.

The petition was created on Friday, July 17 and has reached over 500 signatures as of Monday, July 20.
