At 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, Duke Energy unveiled a website dedicated to the Western Carolinas Modernization Project. The website gives information regarding the project’s key components, such as the retirement of the Asheville coal plant and construction of new transmission lines. The FAQ section contains 34 questions that encompasses many concerns ranging from cost to health. The page can be found at www.duke-energy.com/WCTransmissionEnhancements. According to an email announcing the website from Craig DeBrew, district manager, after 4 p.m. Tuesday, “the community will also have access to an interactive web tool from the new website which will show the alternate routes being considered as well as allow the public to provide Duke Energy comments on the proposed transmission routes.”

Duke Energy will host the first of three community meetings this afternoon at the WNC Ag Center.  The remaining locations and dates are July 21 at Landrum Middle School, and July 23 at Blue Ridge Community College.

Duke Energy encourages questions that were not answered by the FAQ section to be directed to them by calling 888-238-0373 or emailing WCTransmissionEnhancements@duke-energy.com.
