Perry Ltd has been providing kitchen-related products to the Tryon area since its creation in August of 2011. Tommie Perry, owner, started the mom and pop operation as an overstock and closeout store.

The store’s direction changed after many customers began requesting more kitchenware items. Perry Ltd is now a gourmet kitchenware specialty store that sells nationwide through online avenues such as eBay, Amazon and their personal website, PerryLimited.com.

“We were getting by where we were at,” said Perry. “It was just enough to stay afloat, but you’re not in business just to stay afloat.”

Perry began looking in the spring of 2015 into vacancies in downtown Landrum, which he believes has much better foot traffic.

“I was riding by, saw an empty spot and thought it looked great,” said Perry.

On Monday, June 22, the store began its move to the new location at 212 East Rutherford Street in Landrum, in the storefront formerly occupied by Frosty Filly. It will be located between Landrum Hardware and Sissy Boutique.

The store’s new home dwarfs the previous location at 98 North Trade Street in Tryon, roughly tripling in size. Perry plans to use the extra space to expand the store’s offerings to cover gifts and collegiate items.

The increase in retail space will have a large impact on online sales, according to Perry. The limited space of the old store hindered online sales due to the amount of product he could have in stock at any given time.

“We can’t sell something we don’t have, and we don’t want to sell what we have on the floor as it creates an inventory problem,” said Perry.  “I can use the space to increase stock and increase what I sell online.”

Despite the previous setback in size, Perry estimated that 40 percent of sales came from online customers.

Perry expects to be settled in and open for business by July 3.
