There is still time to volunteer for the Blue Ridge BBQ Festival

Published 10:54 pm Friday, June 5, 2015

According to the Blue Ridge BBQ & Music Festival’s Volunteer Chair, Allison Gillespie, there is still time to get in on the fun of volunteering at this year’s event.
“One of the most amazing things about our Festival,” Gillespie said, “is that it is almost all done by volunteers—literally hundreds of them. Many of them return year after year, and each year we also welcome newcomers.

The Festival is on Friday and Saturday, June 12 and 13. But those are not the only dates to volunteer, Gillespie said. Help is needed setting up on Wednesday and Thursday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., and taking down/cleaning up on Sunday,
8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.

There are some 600 different volunteer assignments, most of which happen in four-hour shifts. There is something for almost every age group and every skill level.

If you are one of those people who have waited until the last minute to decide if you want to help, now is the time. You can still sign up online or download an application at www.BlueRidgeBBQFestival. If you need more info, call the festival office at 859-7427.

Shift times both days for above duties are 9:30 a.m.–2 p.m., 1:30–6 p.m., and 5:30–11 p.m.

Volunteers receive a free festival admission both days, free t-shirt, BBQ Bucks for food and free bottled water, plus the satisfaction of knowing they’re doing something really good for the community.

The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $8 per person, and there is no charge for children 12 and under accompanied by an adult. Everyone gets in free on Friday from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. (and they can stay as long as they want!).
