Man shot in head on I-26 in Campobello, expected to recover

At approximately 10:30 p.m. Sunday night Campobello police officers approached a stopped vehicle on Interstate 26 West. The occupants immediately began alerting police offers that a passenger had been shot just minutes prior.

Campobello police reported that O’Shea Keem Stoudemire, 22, of 3321 Cardinal St. in Inman, S.C. fired a .45 caliber handgun from the back seat, striking the front passenger in the head.

Stoudemire fled from the car on foot near the 4-mile marker. Witnesses told police that the shooting was an accident; a negligent discharge attributed to Stoudemire waving the gun in the back seat of the vehicle.

The pistol was reported stolen out of Spartanburg, S.C., according to police.

The victim was transported to Spartanburg Regional Hospital in critical condition, and is expected to recover, as stated by Campobello Police Chief Chad McNeil.

Stoudemire was traced back to his residence in Inman a few hours later with the help of tracking dogs.

Witnesses, two females whose names were not released, told police they were headed to a party in Spartanburg, and had just picked up Stoudemire in Landrum.

Stoudemire will be charged with attempted murder, felony weapon possession, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
