Polk commissioners to hold budget work sessions Monday, Tuesday
The Polk County Board of Commissioners will hold budget work sessions on Monday, May 18 and Tuesday, May 19. Both work sessions begin at 3 p.m. in the commissioner meeting room of the Womack building in Columbus. Commissioners cancelled the May 18 meeting scheduled for 7 p.m.
Cycle North Carolina plans stop in Saluda
Saluda City Planner Jon Cannon told city commissioners this week Randy Billings from Cycle North Carolina contacted the city to see if Saluda can be a stop on the second day of the 498-mile ride. Cannon said they want to use the parking lot across Main Street and they will bring their own portable restrooms and are anticipating 1,200 cyclists. The event will be in Saluda Monday, Sept. 28. Commissioners gave their approval for the cyclists to stop in Saluda.
Saluda schedules sign ordinance public hearing June 8
Saluda commissioners have scheduled a public hearing for Monday, June 8 at 6 p.m. to hear comments regarding amendments to its sign ordinance. Commissioners met May 11 and scheduled the public hearing. The Saluda Planning Board has completed its recommendation. Copies of the sign ordinance draft are available at Saluda City Hall. The city will begin its regular monthly meeting on June 8 following the public hearing.
Saluda to remove stumps, trees at Memorial Park and Main Street
Saluda commissioners agreed to take $2,038 out of the city’s contingency fund to have stumps removed from Memorial Park and dead trees removed from Main Street. Commissioners met May 11 and approved a quote from Jason’s Tree Service to do the work. The city had large locust trees removed recently, but the work did not include the removal of stumps. Jason’s Tree Service will also remove dead trees and stumps from Main Street as well as prune around the flag poles at Memorial Park.
