While in Tampa, Phil was an elementary school educator and co-owned and operated the gourmet restaurant, “The Courtyard.” He retired early to care for Joe and they decided to make Tryon their final home. After Joe’s passing, Phil began working with Davidson Homes as a mentor. He often mentioned how much he appreciated the opportunity and enjoyed the clients with whom he worked. Phil volunteered with “Meals on Wheels” and the Humane Society.

He is survived by his cousin, Marlena Mae Lippe and family members Leanna Nichols (Kenneth), Madeline Moore (Thomas) and Kristopher Nichols, Esq. Phil leaves behind many loving friends in Florida, North Carolina and across the country. He will be remembered as a man of distinction with a very big heart and beautiful smile, and will be greatly missed by those who were lucky enough to know and love him.

Cremation services were handled by Petty Funeral Home, Landrum, S.C. In memory of Phil, donations may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, Columbus, N.C. Condolences may be left at www.pettyfuneralhome.com.
