Douglas Joel McCarty, 80, of Landrum passed away April 5, 2015 at Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills after a brief illness.  Doug was the son of the late Byron B. and Edith Naomi Doty McCarty and husband of Frances Page McCarty for 58 years.

He was in the US Navy, a store manager, painting contractor and a member of Fairview Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, Frances, he was survived by three sons, Mark McCarty (Wendi), Eric McCarty (Deanna), Tim McCarty (Karin); two daughters, Karen Schmitt (Billy), Kathy McCarty; a brother, Bruce McCarty of West Hills, Calif.; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a grandson, Matthew Elder.

The family will receive friends 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Fairview Baptist Church. Services will follow at the church at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. Chuck Mullinax. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
