Steve Coley Field in Landrum was the setting for Thursday’s double-header between the SCA Warriors and the Landrum Cardinals.
In game one, Cree Waters and Josh Johnson led the bats for Landrum as they had two hits each with Zander Steele collecting a daily double. Cree Waters scored two runs with Adam Powell and Joshua Johnson scoring one run each. The Red Birds were busy on the base paths stealing a dozen bases — Cree with three, Joshua, Zander and Brett Jackson with two, and Adam, Isaiah Adderholdt and Grayson Lee stealing one a piece. Guate’ Adderholdt also had a great day on the bump for the Cardinals picking up the win. And Grayson Lee did a great job behind the plate. Landrum won the first game 4 to 2.
In game two, Brett Jackson was outstanding starting his first game of the season on the mound for Landrum Middle School and was solid in striking out seven as he threw a one-hitter against the Warriors on his way to pick up the win, the second of the day for the Cardinals. Cole Williams and Noah Hutcherson led the offense for the Cardinals with two hits each. Michael Clark, Brett Jackson, Adam Powell and Cooper Shealey each had one hit. Cole Williams, Zander Steele, Michael Clark and Cree Waters scored two runs each as Noah Hutcherson, Chandler Carroll, Cooper Shealey and Drake Taber came across the plate once for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals won the second game 12-0. Defensive plays of the day were turning a double play and Grayson Lee’s throw down to Noah Hutcherson at third to nail the would-be base stealer. Offensive plays of the day were Zander Steele’s daily double in game one and Cole Williams’ two run clutch hit in game two. Also, Cree Waters delayed steal home to score a very important run after he had just stolen second and third completing the cycle for his at bat.
