Karen Dickson Johnson will be sharing a recently inspired body of artwork with the public in a show titled, “From the Next Room,” in a “pop up” gallery space at 78 Main St. in Saluda in the building closest to the post office on April 3, 4 and 5 only. The hours will be Friday 6-9 p.m., Saturday 1-9 p.m. and Sunday 1-6 p.m.

Last fall while on vacation, Johnson took a carriage ride in Natchez, Miss. The young driver reminded her of her late son, Wayne. Many years ago, Wayne had taken a beautiful photograph of a flower girl walking on a pier and her reflection in the water. After years of being uninspired Johnson decided to do a drawing from the photograph. Working on the drawing was a joy and the floodgates opened. She continued to do more new work and rework old pieces.   After completing 23 new pieces, she decided to have the show called “From the Next Room.”

Shane Varnidor, a fellow Saluda artist, will be showing one of his wood sculptures, also inspired by Wayne (and a pileated woodpecker that visited him constantly while the work was being completed).
