Heinie Yates White

Heinie Yates White, 88, formerly of Columbus, N.C. died Friday, March 13, 2015 in White Oak Manor, Tryon, N.C.

Born in Polk County, N.C. he was the youngest son of Berlin Lewis and Sallie Williams White.  and was the widower of Mary Edwards White who died in 2005.  He was a veteran of WWII having served in the U. S. Navy.   Heinie was a retired postal carrier with the U. S. Postal Service and later owned and operated a watch repair in Tryon for approximately 15 years.  An active member of Columbus he served as a Columbus Town Councilman and was a member of the Jeff L. Nelson Masonic Lodge.  Heinie was a member of Columbus First Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon.

Surviving are:  two sons, William “Bill” D. Smith (Pat) of Tryon, N.C. and Hal White (Stephanie) of Charleston, S.C. and a daughter, Terry Hitch of Beaufort, S.C. Also surviving are five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Heinie was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.

Graveside services will be held 4 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2015 in Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus, N.C. with Rev. Chad Bowen officiating.

Family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. Sunday just prior to the service in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, N.C.
