Spring is just around the corner. If you’re planning your garden, what about planting Pinwheels for Prevention?

Display a pinwheel garden as a sign of your commitment to child abuse prevention in our Polk County community. Pinwheels remind us of childlike notions and stand for the chance at the healthy, happy and full lives all children deserve. Shining in the sun, the pinwheel is reflective of the bright future all children deserve and our belief that getting it right early is less costly than trying to fix it later.

Local businesses and individuals can join the cause by ordering pinwheels for their own displays during April. Pinwheels are 12 inches in height, made from plastic and Mylar and are 100 percent recyclable and come in cases of 48 or in a smaller kit for those who want to make a statement at home.

The pinwheel home kit includes 24 pinwheels and a 14″ x 14″ yard sign and stake for you to display as a sign of your commitment to child abuse prevention at your home or apartment. Some organizations have chosen to create pinwheel gardens, while others distribute the pinwheels to customers and friends.

To order pinwheels, contact Steps to Hope at 828-894-2340. A case of 48 pinwheels costs $40 and the home kit is $30. Orders should be placed no later than March 20.

Chopsticks can help make planting pinwheel gardens a bit easier and more fun when the ground is hard. Simply push the chopsticks into the ground and slide the pinwheels over the chopsticks to last all month long! Chopsticks come in packs of 50 for an additional cost of $2 per pack.
