Florence Elsie Marie (Kuckkahn) Dauffenbach was born in Watertown, Wisc. on April 12, 1917 the first child of John and Martha (Hartwig) Kuckkahn. She was born from above through holy Baptism in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit at Immanuel Lutheran Church there.
Florence attended St. Mark’s Lutheran School and graduated from Northwestern High School in 1935. She attended Northwestern College for one year, later graduating from Milwaukee Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing, where she was taught by Sister Emma, a Lutheran deaconess. Florence served as a nurse in an Omaha hospital one summer, also in California when Harry was stationed there, but working primarily at the hospital in Watertown and Milwaukee Hospital during her 37 years of faithful service. She retired in 1975.
The Lord joined Florence to Harry Dauffenbach in holy wedlock on October 19, 1940 at Trinity Lutheran Church (WELS), Watertown, Wisc. Their union of 72 years was a wonderful blessing to them, their church and their community. In retirement they traveled and enjoyed camping for many years, relocating to Asheville in 1985 and to Tryon Estates in 1998. Harry and Florence were members of Trinity Lutheran Church (LCMS) in Tryon since 1999.
Florence was preceded in death two years ago by Harry, her husband, and in her youth by a toddler sister, Dorothy. She is survived by her sister Ruth Lange of Wisconsin. She also is survived by three nieces and one nephew, and several great nieces and nephews.
For several years Florence has been a resident on Tryon Estates’ Willow Lane and enjoyed the precious care and sincere love of the staff there. On Wednesday, Feb. 11, in the year of our Lord 2015 at the age of 97 years and ten months, her Lord Jesus Christ called home to heaven the soul of Florence Dauffenbach. A faithful lamb of Christ the Good Shepherd, Florence fell asleep in Jesus to awaken with Him in the paradise of heaven. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Tryon, N.C. at 11 a.m. with lunch to follow.
