The Columbus Police Department announces that it had their photograph selected for publication by the North Carolina Governor’s Highway Safety Program for the agency’s 2015 calendar. The calendar features law enforcement agencies from across the state, demonstrating different facets of police work. Highlighting the statewide motorcycle safety program, Officer Feagan and Chief Beddingfield are in the photograph on their motorcycles demonstrating interaction on a roadway.

The Landrum Fire Department has a limited quantity of smoke alarms available for free to Landrum residents on a first come-first served basis. The alarms are provided to the fire department through the Spartanburg County Fire Chiefs Association.  Spartanburg County has dealt with numerous fire fatalities recently, according to Landrum Fire Chief Warren Ashmore, who urges residents to have a properly functioning smoke alarm, to keep items at least three feet from any kind of space heater, to plug space heaters directly into the wall and not an extension cord, and to properly dispose of ashes in a tightly covered metal container.
