Polk appoints commissioners to volunteer boards

The Polk County Board of Commissioners appointed each member to represent the county on various volunteer boards for the year 2015-2016 during the county’s Jan. 5 meeting.

Several boards have elected official representation and each commissioner is assigned to at least one board.

Commissioner Michael Gage was assigned to four volunteer boards, including the Health District Board, as the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC) Legislative Goals Conference Voting Delegate, the Polk County Recreation Advisory Board and the Smoky Mountain Advisory Council.

Newly elected commissioner Shane Bradley was appointed to three volunteer boards, including the Agricultural Advisory Board, which is previously the county’s Farmland Preservation Board; the Polk County Library Board of Trustees and the Mental Health Advisory Board.

Commissioner vice chair Keith Holbert was appointed to three boards, including the Home and Community Care Block Grant Committee, the Social Services Board and the Transportation Advisory Board.

Ray Gasperson was appointed to two boards, including the Polk County Council on Aging and the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council.

Commissioner chair Tom Pack was appointed to the Isothermal Planning and Development Commission.

The board of commissioners cancelled its second monthly meeting scheduled for last night, Monday, Jan. 19. The county’s next meeting is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 2.
