Sheila Lyles Miller

Sheila Lyles Miller passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015 at the Carolina Foothills Hospice
House. She was 77.
Born in Spindale, N.C. on Feb. 20, 1937, she was the daughter of Oscar and Pauline Lyles. She
graduated from RS Central High School in 1955. She married her high school sweetheart, William
Miller in 1957. The Millers’ moved to Tryon in 1965 where Sheila was a loving mother and
housewife, and William worked as a local attorney. Sheila was very active in the local community
and her church where she loved singing in the choir.
Mrs. Miller was active in the Tryon Garden Club for many years. She enjoyed traveling in the
mountains of Western North Carolina as well as exploring the coastal regions. She also liked to
hike and could often be seen walking along the sidewalks of Tryon.
Mrs. Miller is survived by her husband of 57 years, William Miller; her sons, Bill and Jeff Miller of
Tryon; her daughter, Sherrie Simpson of Edgewater, Md.; One brother, Raymond Lyles of
Spindale, N.C.; One daughter-in-law, Valerie Miller of Tryon and one son-in-law, Al Simpson of
Edgewater, Md.; Also surviving are six grandchildren; Elizabeth, Rebecca and Evan Simpson of
Lancaster, S.C.; Emily and Alex Miller of Tryon, N.C.; Kyle Silver and his wife Shannon of Boone,
N.C.; She is preceded in death by her brother JC Lyles.
A memorial service for Mrs. Miller will be held on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist
Church of Tryon. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mrs. Millers’ life. Her interment will be a
private family service to be held at a different time. In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to
the Tryon First Baptist Church choir fund or Hospice of the Carolina Foothills in Landrum, S.C.
