Maude Hubbard Goldsmith Carr

Maude Hubbard Goldsmith Carr, a respected equestrian, died Sunday after a long and heroic battle with cancer. She was 72.  A devoted animal lover, Ms. Carr was known for her generous spirit and was a friend to all who she came in touch with.

Ms. Carr was born on March 29, 1942 in Charleston, W.Va., to Rebecca Dickinson Goldsmith and E.I. Goldsmith. She attended Oldfields School in Maryland before earning a degree from Stephens College in Columbia, Mo.

Ms. Carr married Robert F. Carr III of Lake Forest, Ill. on Jan. 4, 1964 in Charleston. They had three children, Rebecca Carr (Stephen) Hedges of Washington D.C.; Mary  “Mimi” Carr (Thomas) Killoren of Spartanburg, S.C.; and Robert F. Carr IV of San Diego.

In addition to her children, she leaves behind her brothers Robert F. (Lynn) Goldsmith of Charleston, W.Va., and E.I. Goldsmith of Gypsum, Colo., and eight grandchildren: Jane Fletcher Hedges of Chicago; Charles Barton Hedges, Quinn Culbertson Hedges, Caroline Maude Francis Hedges of Washington, D.C.; Henry Clay Killoren and Kelly Carr Killoren of Spartanburg, S.C.; and Lilly Kate Carr and Claudia Young Carr of Lake Bluff, Ill.
