Tons of enthusiastic “Turkey Trotters” trekked around Bright’s Creek Golf and Equestrian Center Nov. 29 for the inaugural Turkey Trot 5K and one-mile fun run. Nate Smart of Tryon, 16, was the overall winner of the 5K in 22:46.  Mo Palmer of Florida, 14, was the overall female champion in a time of 23:36. Jake Justice of Saluda, 14, won the one-mile fun run in 5:40.

Sixty participants, including local supporters and many Bright’s Creek owners and staff cantered the gently rolling hills. The inclusion of both the 5K and fun run ensured supporters both young and old, competitive and novice, a share of the fun. Donations collected for the event were allocated to the men’s and women’s running teams of Polk County High School.
