James Little Oliver, Jr. (Jim) 84, passed away peacefully at Hospice House in Landrum, S.C. early Sunday morning, Nov. 16, 2014. He was the loving husband for 60 years to Audrey Pepper Oliver of Winston-Salem, N.C. and the son of Jamie and Julia Oliver of Panola, Ala.

Jim grew up in Alabama and after high school graduation joined the U.S. Marines for one year. Before completing his education he was called back to serve in the Korean Conflict where he received the Purple Heart. He then returned to the University of Alabama where he met his wife, Audrey Pepper, from Winston-Salem, N.C. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity and graduated in 1956. He then moved to Winston-Salem where he began his career as an account executive with Reynolds and Company. He continued his career in Atlanta and Charlotte until he moved to Landrum with his family in 1993.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey, daughter Linda Oliver Perone (Steve),of Greer, S.C., son James Clayton Oliver of Inman, S.C., daughter Sallie Pepper Oliver of Columbus, N.C., two grandsons, GSM2 E5 2nd class Petty Officer James Kacy Oliver (Araceli) of San Diego, Calif. and Francis Pepper Alverson of Columbia, S.C. and one great-granddaughter, a brother William Conner Oliver (Barbara) of Atlanta, Ga. and a sister, Charlotte Oliver Owens, of Aliceville, Ala.

The family will receive family and friends at the home, 305 East Prince Road, Landrum, S.C., on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014 from 12 – 2 p.m. with the graveside service immediately following at Jackson Grove United Methodist Church, 2842 N. Pacolet Road, Landrum, S.C.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
