Where are we headed?

Letter to the editor:
We are witnessing the most turbulent times of our lives. The Bible says more about this period of time than any other. The concentration of power in America is terrifying and perversions of all kinds are openly promoted and protected by an elite few.
A recent example is the overturning of North Carolina’s marriage amendment to the State Constitution by an unelected, federal judge. Because of this decision, we are being forced to support a perverted lifestyle through taxes paid to the local and State government. Our register of deeds offices across the state are now issuing marriage license to homosexuals and magistrates are marrying homosexuals. Gays and lesbians are now a protected class of citizens. Will it soon be illegal to speak out against them in public or the pulpit? America is in a moral free fall and many of our significant social changes are brought about by court decisions, not laws we voted on. Every social crisis we face today is caused by immorality.
One of the teachings of the modern day Christian, evangelical Church is to get involved in society by participating in elections and more importantly to elect Christian leaders. Those Christian leaders in our government should be warned that their apathy and refusal to stand up and fight for Biblical principles is and will continue to be detrimental to society and more importantly in direct disobedience to God.
One of our local, elected, church-going leaders was recently quoted in the Henderson County newspaper as saying “Same sex marriages are against my Christian beliefs, but I have taken an oath, and I have to uphold my oath and do what the law tells me to do.”
What about your oath to your Heavenly Father? Do you pledge allegiance to Him or to man’s lawlessness? You see, our beliefs determine how we live. When we stand up for Christ, we will be mocked, laughed at, accused of intolerance, possibly convicted of hate crimes, possibly lose our jobs and maybe even cast into prison. However, the Bible says that all who live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
I admit that the Bible teaches us to obey the laws of our land, and I encourage everyone to do so. However, God’s law is supreme and there comes a time when we must choose whom we will follow.
There is a glimmer of hope in these turbulent times. Christ is not willing that any should perish but that all would come to repentance. Thank God for forgiveness.
