Annie Bell Cudd Gilbert

Annie Bell Cudd Gilbert, 86, of Chesnee Road, Green Creek, N.C. passed away Friday, Oct. 24, 2014 in Hospice of the Carolina Foothills House, Landrum, S.C.

Born in Polk County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Clint and Eva Lancaster Cudd. She was the widow of Walter L. Gilbert, Sr. who died in l992. Annie was a graduate of Harris High School, Rutherfordton, N.C. and was well known for her basketball skills. She was retired from the textile industry and the Polk County Board of Elections with more than 30 years of service. She was a member of New Hope Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women.

Surviving are: a son, Lionel Gilbert (Debbie) of Columbus, N.C.; a sister, Marie Spake of Spartanburg, S.C.; two grandchildren, Travis Gilbert (Elizabeth)of San Francisco and Tracie Gilbert Brodie (Todd) of Clover, S.C. Also surviving are five greatgrandchildren, Haley and Cade Brodie and Tristan, Scarlett and Ryder Gilbert.

Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, N.C. Burial was in New Hope Methodist Church Cemetery, Green Creek, N.C. Family received friends Sunday, one hour prior to the service, from 1 – 1:45 p.m. in the McFarland funeral chapel.
