Democracy has taken a back seat in Polk County

To the editor:
Public participation at Polk County Commissioners’ meetings is futile. Commissioners consult the public only after they have made their decisions and effected action. Fait accompli (over and done with) every time.
Brave souls who try to make an impact at the Commissioners’ meetings are tilting at windmills. They are ignored. In Polk County, democracy has taken a back seat.
That is why your informed vote in mid-term elections Nov. 4 on local, state and national fronts is as crucial to the future of our society as it is any presidential election.
Let us work to restore a government of the people, by the people and for the people. If not for our own sake, then for the sake of our children, grandchildren and their descendants.
