FENCE’s Therapeutic Riding of Tryon (TROT) program is happy to announce that it has just celebrated its tenth anniversary of providing local adults and children with the ability to ride and interact with horses.
Founded in 2004 by Norm Powers, TROT’s beginning had six participants, one instructor, twelve volunteers and three therapy horses. In 2013, the program served 25 participants, 12 therapy horses that are privately owned and trailered to FENCE by their owners on lesson days and 77 dedicated volunteers. FENCE is very grateful to all its volunteers that make this program such a success.
With the fall session just around the corner we are excited to announce TROT’s new Administrative Director, Debra Carton, Volunteer Coordinator, Carol Kenny, Program Advisor, Carol Ten Broek and Instructor, Lelia Canter.
Canter is a PATH Registered Therapeutic Riding Instructor. And having trained for her certification at FENCE back in 2012 she’s already quite familiar with our own program. Additionally she currently operates her practice – Lelia Canter Bodyworks for Horse & Rider incorporating Red Light Therapy, JENT, Myofascial Release, Craniofacial Therapy and Reiki in her sessions with horses and riders.
Lelia’s professional riding instructor certifications include:
uTRI – Registered Therapeutic Riding Instructor with Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship, International (PATH, Intl.)
uCRI I– Centered Riding® Instructor
uAISRB – Associate, International Society of Rider Biomechanics
FENCE’s Therapeutic Riding of Tryon (TROT) program changes and enriches lives by teaching horsemanship skills to adults and children with physical, cognitive, development and emotional challenges in a safe, friendly and supportive environment. TROT is a Premier Accredited Center with the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intl.).
