Ninth Annual Firemen’s Barrel Roll Competition at Green Creek

Firefighters will have an opportunity again this year to engage in some friendly competition during the Ninth Annual Firemen’s Barrel Roll Competition as part of the Sixteenth Annual Green Creek Heritage Festival on Saturday, Sept. 6, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
The competition that will begin at 1 p.m. has become a festival favorite that pits teams of two from surrounding area fire departments against one another. There will be a barrel on a suspended cable and each team will try to push the barrel to the other team’s line with water from a fire hose. In addition to bragging rights, the winning team will receive their department’s name on a wooden whiskey barrel trophy.
The barrel is a traveling trophy that the winning team gets to keep at their department for a year. When they come back the next year to defend their title, the barrel goes back up for grabs.
All fire departments from surrounding counties are encouraged to join the challenge and any departments that would like to participate should contact Michael Herman at 828-817-4049.
Everyone is invited and encouraged to come for the entire day. There will be something for all ages to enjoy. For more information or to volunteer to help with the festival contact Krista Haynes, Festival Coordinator at 828-817-0194. No pets, outside solicitation or food vendors are allowed at the festival.
