A new church charter is opening in Tryon. FootHills Family Church, which is located at 201 Freeman Hill in Tryon, is a new Christian church with a strong focus on building families through honoring the Lord Jesus Christ.
FootHills Family Church believes that children are the future’s most important asset; therefore this community of believers promotes God first, followed closely by a family-children atmosphere. The youth and young adults assist in many facets of worship service; greeting members and visitors alike, playing musical instruments, developing prudent skits, plays and performances, along with participating at every age in missional endeavors. Pastor Bruce Wrenn and his wife, Heike have resided in the foothills for 19 years with a short span (24-months) studying for graduate and post graduate degrees in Columbia S.C., and Lynchburg Va. Upon graduation, they relocated to their home in Landrum, S.C.
In early May 2013 they began this new Christian work in their home.
This work grew rapidly; they incorporated the church, named it FootHills Family and moved the congregation into the Melrose Inn of Tryon under the auspices of Marilyn Doheney, owner and proprietor. During this eight-month venture, members searched for a suitable building to inhabit.
On the July 2, 2014 after negotiating the church and surrounding property, the unique congregation purchased the facility on Freeman Hill.
The edifice, nearly historic, was constructed in 1933 for the sole purpose of spiritually servicing Tryon and outlying townships and counties. Established as the Tryon Presbyterian Church, the facility was sold to a not-for-profit organization in 1959. The FootHills Family will rededicate this building for the furtherance of spiritual discernment, the evangelization of the needy and public as well as communal services.
The church’s formal dedication service, ordination signing and acknowledgement of church charter will be held on September 7 at 10:45am; this special service is open to the public.
Directly following the celebratory functions, the congregation will host their first Annual FootHills Family BBQ, located in the fellowship hall and church grounds. The public is invited to this special service and stay for fellowship and fine country eating. All are welcome.
