On July 19, four students from Landrum High School and two students from Polk County High School completed the three-week Cannon Music Camp at Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C. All six students received full funding from the residents at Tryon Estates and the Laurel Lake Music Society.Twelve Tryon Estates residents attended the final two concerts in Boone.
An additional Polk County High School student who was fully funded had to cancel before the camp began due to an injury. The funding for him was used to allow two highly qualified additional students (one from High Point, N.C. and one from Lexington, N.C.) who had partial scholarships to attend the Music Camp. The Laurel Lake Music Society was pleased to redirect those funds and help these two students.
In October 2014 the competition for Polk County and Landrum High School students for the 2015 Cannon Music Camp will begin with the distribution of information and applications to the high schools. The 2015 camp will be held at Appalachian State University June 27-July 18. Scholarship applicants must be attending school in grades 9, 10, 11, or 12 in the 2014-2015 school year, and have at least two years of musical training.
