Tryon Fine Arts Center announces 2014-2015 main stage season

Tryon Fine Arts Center announces the 2014-2015 Main Stage Season opening Friday, September 12 with Western North Carolina award-winning acoustic band, Balsam Range. The series, sponsored by Millard & Company, is an exciting array of music and dance, taking season audiences on a journey celebrating award winning performances from Bluegrass musicians to sizzling Flamenco dancers, to important musical and social icons, and plain hot jazz vocals.
Friday, September 12: Balsam Range sets the season bar high with their tight acoustic sound. These five outstanding musicians and singers from Haywood County, NC are consistently topping bluegrass charts with their award winning Americana sound. The fresh, unique southern band on the rise, brings their loyal audiences back time after time with stellar musicianship and powerful vocals blending traditional bluegrass with influences of jazz, country, gospel, swing and old-time. Friday, November 7: Driven by the fiery beat of the cante jondo, Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana provides passion and drama in the inspiring and joyful program The Soul of Flamenco. This powerful troupe promotes Flamenco as a vital art form and is one of the nation’s premier flamenco and Spanish dance companies celebrating its 30th Anniversary Season. Event Sponsor is the Kirby Endowment Fund at Polk County Community Foundation.
Friday, February 6: Award winning singer Natalie Douglas brings the depth and humanity of Nina Simone back to Tryon in, “To Nina…a tribute to Nina Simone”. Earning rave reviews in New York and London, Natalie shares the power of Nina Simone with passion, nuance, fierce intelligence and her own infectious personality. Natalie will share Nina’s history and music with local students, thanks to funding from the NC Arts Council.
Thursday, March 12: Get to know Grammy Award winning musician/activist Peter Yarrow in A Night of Conversation and Song. Yarrow, of Peter, Paul & Mary fame, will bring his iconic songs and rich cultural history to the intimate atmosphere of the TFAC auditorium. His gift for songwriting has produced some of the most moving songs from Peter, Paul & Mary, including “Puff, the Magic Dragon,” and “Where Have All the Flowers Gone.” WWE Realty is the Concert Sponsor.
Friday, April 10: The final show in the 2014-2015 series is Grammy Award winning New York Voices. The exciting and sophisticated vocal group has refined their musical story to a high art. They are known for their close-knit harmonies, inspired arrangements and unparalleled vocal blend. Deeply rooted in jazz, Brazilian, R & B, classical, and pop, their music mixes traditional sensibilities with more than a dash of the unexpected.
TFAC’s Board President Tim Brannon states, “We’ll have unsurpassed variety this season from an intimate conversation with Peter Yarrow to thundering flamenco dance and New York hits.
